Documentary filmmaker Howard Hall takes his cameras to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and the Coral Triangle of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia to capture an array of sea life. The intention was to entertain with extraordinary visuals as well as pass along the message of global warming and the effect it’s having on the sea’s exotic creatures.

Under the Sea 3D unveils incredible underwater footage that bring you up and close with the mating rituals of the Cuttlefish and the hard to see camouflage of the Leafy Sea Dragon. For the time you spend in the theater, you’d swear you were diving the Great Barrier Reef and swimming with Sea Turtles feasting on jellyfish.

Kids will be mesmerized by the vibrant colors and the film’s playful tone, the Sea Lions with their expressive eyes are just too cute for words, while adults will be wowed by the complexity of the 3D technology.

As a diver You might be asking yourself, How could I forgot there were such a thing as Sea Snakes or I forgot That Jellyfish are a favorite meal of the Sea Turtle? The combination of Imax and 3D technology makes you feel like you’re in reaching distance of all the critters on the screen. You feel like you’re in the world’s grandest aquarium.

Running length is 40 minutes which is nominal for IMAX documentaries. In the case of “Under the Sea” however you’re starved for more. The boys and I could have watched hours of this stuff. In March, Divers’ Supply Indy and ScubBasics is planning to attend another showing with all proceeds going to DAN. Don’t miss the chance to see Under the Sea 3d I Under the Sea 3D IMAX.
